The Thessaloniki Concert Hall and the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra welcome Julian Rachlin to our city—a multi-talented artist who has gained international recognition as a violinist, conductor, and teacher, while also serving as the Music Director of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. Rachlin will take the stage as a violinist to perform Mendelssohn’s captivating Concerto for violin on his renowned 1704 Stradivarius violin, the “Ex-Liebig”.
The program opens with In the Highlands by Danish composer Niels Gade, a close associate of Mendelssohn and deeply influenced by his mentor. The evening culminates in one of the most significant and widely beloved symphonic masterpieces ever composed—Brahms’ magnificent Symphony No. 3, a work through which the great composer conveys a message to his dear friend Joachim, who was enduring the hardships of an unhappy marriage: “Free but happy.”
