The Yale Symphony Orchestra boasts an extensive history of concerts, world tours, and collaborations with some of the most illustrious names in classical music (Yo-Yo Ma, Nigel Kennedy, Emmanuel Ax.) It is one of the leading youth orchestras in the United States and it has nurtured musicians who now hold positions in some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, such as the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Philharmonia Orchestra of London. The YSO has always placed great emphasis on contemporary music. Since its early years, when it presented the European premiere of Bernstein’s Mass, the orchestra has commissioned and debuted numerous works by emerging composers. At the helm of the orchestra is William Boughton, founder of the English Symphony Orchestra (ESO), an internationally acclaimed conductor known for his collaborations with major orchestras and soloists worldwide, as well as his extensive and award-winning discography.
