SONIA THEODORIDOU & PLAZA ENSEMBLE: FROM TANGOS TO FADOS

Soprano Sonia Theodoridou and the Plaza Ensemble Quartet present a musical conversation between Argentinian tangos and Portuguese fados: from the intense rhythm, expressive dance and passion of Argentina to the lyricism and emotionally charged melodies of Portuguese folk or artistic poetry. The concert will feature songs and instrumental pieces of classical and especially nuevo tango, signed by the iconic Argentinian composers Carlos Gardel and Ástor Piazzolla, as well as songs performed and communicated to Portuguese and international audiences by the “Queen” of fado, Amália Rodrigues. The program also includes songs with references to tango or inspired by tango by artistic or popular music composers.
