THE UNIVERSITY OF MACEDONIA AT THE CONCERT HALL
JOHANNES BRAHMS AND HIS TIME
IN COOPERATION WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF MUSICAL SCIENCE & ART (DMSA) OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MACEDONIA
Johannes Brahms and his time
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his death
Homage to the late romanticism piano art by the DMSA Piano Sector students
Works performed include pieces for one and two pianos by J. Brahms, E. Grieg, C. Saint-Saëns, B. Smetana, P.I. Tchaikovsky
Piano evolved as a prominent soloist instrument, after the classic period of Vienna, to peak in the 19th century. It would not be an exaggeration to call the 19th century the century of the piano.
Late romanticism offered us the modern piano, with all the features of contemporary soloist instruments in major concert halls. Major composers of the time now compose works for this instrument from one end of Europe to the other!
Johannes Brahms is considered to be an emblematic figure of his time and his work is an integral part of the world cultural heritage.
