ZIAD RAJAB TRIO

T.C.H.
Ziad Rajab grew up in a highly musical family, where he received his first lessons in the oud. His birthplace, Aleppo, was once a famous crossroad where musicians flocked from all over the Arabic world and it is where Ziad began his musical journey.
His playing is rich but at the same time minimalistic. When he performs a Maqam, he tries with clarity and simplicity to convey its essence, which can be understood only through direct experience. Whether maintaining a reverent silence, or creating a highly effusive and rousing soundscape, Ziad’s playing creates a special atmosphere which keeps audience’s transfixed.
Talented New Zealand saxophonist James Wylie, who was introduced to the sounds of the East when he moved to Greece, and drummer Giorgos Klountzos-Chrysidis, create a modern framework for Ziad’s oud.
