Sérgio de A. is a talented pianist born in Porto, where he began his musical studies at an early age under the guidance of Miguel Borges Coelho. He completed his Bachelor's degree at the Porto School of Music with the highest score.
Throughout his educational journey, he participated in numerous improvement masterclasses, notably studying under the tutelage of Russian piano masters like Vitalij Margulis and Dmitri Bashkirov.
In this context, he had the opportunity to meet the eminent pianist and 1973 Van Cliburn Gold Medalist, Vladimir Viardo, who awarded him a scholarship to work with him at the University of North Texas.
Sérgio de A. is the recipient of several awards, including the Helena Sá e Costa Prize, the Maria Campina Prize, and later, the Best Accompanying Pianist Prize at the Rotary Club Singing Competition at Teatro S. Luís in Lisbon. He has been active as a versatile concert pianist, performing in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, the USA, and Russia.
He has also participated in chamber music at various festivals, including the International Music Festival of Póvoa de Varzim, Gaia, Reencontros 21, "Appuntamenti" in Rome, and "Sons do Universo" at the Rachmaninoff Hall in Moscow, as well as performances at the Gulbenkian Museum and Casa da Música collaborating with artists such as Pascal Moragés, Jerôme Voisin, Yannis Tsitselikis, Marco Pereira, Shirley Brill, Verazin String Quartet and Quarteto de Cordas de Matosinhos, among many others.
Sérgio de A. has recorded solo performances live for Antena 2 and has three chamber music albums recorded live in Rome by IPSAR and produced by Antonio Ciciarelli (RAI). He is a member of the Contratempus Quartet, a group dedicated to the production of contemporary Portuguese operas, and he has a Duo with pianist Bernardo Pinhal, which won the Ageas/Casa da Música Prize in 2019.
Currently, he serves as an assistant professor at the Porto School of Music and Performing Arts, and the Espinho Professional School, sharing his knowledge and passion for music with the next generation of musicians.
His journey is not just a biohraphy; it´s a puzzle, a labyrinth, weaving on an ever evolving tapestry of existence. In Sergio de A.´s music, we find a storyteller, a dreamer and an enigma.
