Yannis Kormpetis
Violin
Violinist Yannis Kormpetis began his studies at the Kavala Municipal Conservatory. At the age of 14 he received his first Degree with the highest grade and two years later he graduated with a Diploma, again with the highest grade. From 1998 until 2006 he pursued graduate and postgraduate studies with Ulf Hoelscher at the Hochschule für Musik (University of Music) in Karlsruhe, graduating with the following degrees: Diploma of Orchestra Music (Orchester Musik, 2003, grade 1*), Diploma of “Artistic Education” (Diplom “Künstlerische Ausbildung”, grade 1*) and Soloist Diploma (Konzertexamen, 2006, grade 1*).
He has performed in many countries (Greece, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Spain and France) with several important artists, such as Ulf Hoelscher, Jean Sulem, Christian Euler, Martin Ostertag and David Geringas, receiving excellent reviews from the Press. Moreover, he has recorded for the Greek and German Radio (SWR) and has won numerous awards in national and international competitions.
As a soloist, he has collaborated with the Crimean State Symphony Orchestra, the Neue Philharmonia Hungarica (Klavier-Festival Ruhr), the Sofia Sinfonietta in Sofia (Festival Salon des Arts NDK), the Bacau State Orchestra in Romania, the Thessaloniki City Symphony Orchestra, the Baden-Baden Jugendorchester, the Ensemble Korrespondenzen Baden-Baden, the Festival Orchester Euroclassic, the Nürnberger Jugendorchester at the Ancient Theatre of Philippi, the Orchestra of the 1st “Yannis A. Papaioannou” Festival in Kavala, and the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra.
He is the recipient of a monetary award from the “Propontis” Foundation, the “Yannis A. Papaioannou” Scholarship, the “Alexandros Onassis” Public Foundation Scholarship, and the “Alexandra Trianti” Scholarship of the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron).
He has participated actively in masterclasses with Wolfgang Jahn, Sebastian Schmidt, Sergej Kravchenko, Leonidas Kavakos, Charles Avsharian, Stephen B. Shipps, Taras Gabora, Sergej Stadler, and the Faure Quartet. From 1998 until 2003 he was a student of Stelios Kafantaris.
In June 2010 he was named Artistic Director and Assistant to Ulf Hoelscher at the “Summer Academy of Classical Music” in Asprovalta, Greece.
Since 2017 he is teaching the violin at the University of Macedonia (Department of Music Sience and Art) in Thessaloniki and at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki.
Mr. Kormpetis plays a 1703 violin made by “Antonio Maria Lavazza”.
