A leading singer worldwide, Greek mezzo-soprano Mary-Ellen Nesi has appeared at major international venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Frankfurt Opera, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (Linbury Studio), the Semperoper (Dresden), the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, the Strathmore Hall (Washington DC), the Arriaga (Bilbao), the Avery Fisher Hall (NY), the Sao Carlos Opera (Lisbon), the Operas of Florence, Ferrara, Modena and Piacenza, the Theater an der Wien, the Royal Opera of Versailles, the Opera of Lausanne, the Wiesbaden Opera, the Concertgebouw, the Chungmu Art Hall (Seoul). The singer, born in Montreal, Canada, has also appeared in renowned festivals around the world and in 2003 she founded the Opera Festival of Ancient Corinth.
Mary-Ellen Nesi’s main focus lies in the baroque, classical and belcanto repertoire. She has performed more than 35 principal roles. Her recordings of the Handel operas Oreste (as Oreste), Arianna in Creta (as Teseo), Tamerlano (as Andronico), Giulio Cesare (as Sesto), Alessandro Severo (as Alessandro), Siroe (as Emira) under George Petrou, as well as Berenice (as Arsace) under Alan Curtis and Vivaldi's Farnace (as Berenice), under Diego Fasolis, have received the highest critical acclaim. He has also recorded the role of Orazio in Gluck’s Il trionfo di Clelia, under G. Sigismondi de Risio, a solo CD Salve Regina, D. Scarlatti’s Tolomeo ed Alessandro (as Dorisbe), Christmas at San Marco, under Peter Kopp, and on DVD, Ercole su’l Termodonte (Antiope), Ariodante (Polinesso) and Motezuma (Mitrena), under Alan Curtis and Farnace (title role), under F-M Sardelli. Her recent recordings include Le Nozze di Figaro (as Cherubino) (Sony), under Theodor Currentzis, Baroque Divas under George Petrou (Decca), Beethoven Symphony No9, under Bruno Weil (Tafelmusik Media) and Porpora's Germanico in Germania (as Arminio) (Decca).
