Quincy Eby, 17, commenced his musical journey at age 5 as a violinist under the guidance of Dorothy Kaplan Roffman, of The Thurnauer School of Music. He later continued his violin studies until age 12 with Krzysztof Kuznik to focus full-time on the viola.  Quincy began studying viola with Francesca Silos formerly of the Colorado Quartet who also coaches him as part of the award-winning Thurnauer String Quartet of which he is also a founder. In 2021 The Thurnauer String Quartet won the grand prize at the Young Maestro International Music Competition.  In 2022 they were finalists in the Gershwin Competition and in 2023 the Quartet will be competing at Fischoff. As a chamber musician, Quincy has performed as part of a masterclass with the Ensemble Cremona Quartet, Mostly Mozart at Lincoln Center, and at the Bowdoin International Music Festival. In 2022 Quincy was the winner of the Kutztown International Music Festival concerto competition and will be making his international debut in Greece in the summer of 2023. As a soloist Quincy was a 2023 semi-finalist in the 26th annual Sphinx Competition and was also a finalist in the Adelphi Orchestra Young Artist Competition.  Quincy is also the 2022 recipient of a gold medal in the classical instrument category from the NAACP /Act-So program and the New Jersey Governor's Award in Arts Education. As part of the Sphinx Performance Academy, Quincy has been invited to participate in the Curtis Institute of Music’s Mentor Program. There he studied viola with Ed Gazouleas and participated in a masterclass with President Roberto Diaz also at Curtis. Quincy has also studied viola with Stephen Wyrczynski from Jacobs School of Music and Kirsten Docteur from Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Quincy is currently a student of Molly Carr and Yi Fang Huang at Juilliard Pre College.  An outstanding servant leader who is always looking to help those that are most vulnerable in society Quincy volunteers at local food banks to help combat food insecurity and participates in local charity events where he can share his love for and the gift of music. For this work, Quincy in 2021 was recognized with a silver medal for outstanding community service as part of the President’s Volunteer Service Award.  After graduating from Dwight Englewood School where he is currently a Junior, Quincy plans to continue his musical studies at a Conservatory.
