Acclaimed for his highly sensitive touch and technical brilliance, possessor of an extraordinarily diverse repertoire, Alexei Volodin is in demand by orchestras at the highest level, as for instance the London Philharmonia, Montréal Symphony, Philharmonique de Strasbourg, NCPA Beijing, BBC Symphony, NHK Symphony Tokio, Suisse Romande de Genève, St Petersburg Philharmonic and collaborating with important conductors as Valery Gergiev or Semyon Bychkov for instance.
Born in 1977 in St Petersburg, Alexei Volodin studied at Moscow’s Gnessin Academy and later with Eliso Virsaladze at the Moscow Conservatoire. In 2001, he continued his studies at the Accademia Internazionale del Pianoforte "Lago di Como" and gained international recognition following his victory at the International Géza Anda Competition in Zürich in 2003.
An active chamber musician, he has a long-standing collaboration with many artists including Sol Gabetta and other chamber partners as Janine Jansen, Julian Rachlin and Mischa Maisky, as well as the Borodin Quartet, Modigliani Quartet, Cuarteto Casals and Cremona Quartet.
Volodin regularly appears in recital in venues such as: Wiener Konzerthaus, Palau de la Música de Barcelona, Philharmonie de Paris, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Tonhalle Zürich and Auditorio Nacional de la Música de Madrid.
He was invited by several important Festivals, like "La Roque d’Anthéron", Moscow Easter Festival, Les Rencontres Musicales d'Évian, "Les Folles Journées" de Nantes, "White Nights" in St Petersburg,. Festival de Besançon, Baden-Baden and Lucerne Piano Festival.
He recorded for several labels, as "Mariinsky" and Challenge Classics. His solo album of Schumann, Ravel and Scriabin, and his earlier Chopin disc won the prize "Choc de Classica" and was awarded five stars by the Diapason Magazine.
