Alessandro Tortato

Alessandro Tortato was born in Venice, Italy on March 18, 1969. He received a degree in Pianoforte at the “Benedetto Marcello” Academy of Music of Venice, trained by Professor Anna Colonna Romano, and trained by Professor Vacchi, Professor Viezzer and Professor Priori in composition.  He was later trained by Professor Zuccarini in orchestra conduction at the “A: Casella” Academy of Music of L’Aquila, Italy.  He improved in orchestra conduction with Gustav Kuhn, Julius, Peter Maag, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Yuri Ahronovitch, Isaac Karabtchevsky In January of 2001 he received a Conducting Triennal degree under Donato Renzetti at the Academy of Music in Pescara, Italy. He was selected by Neeme Järvi and Jorma Panula to participate in the Pärnu David Oistrakh Festival (Estonia, July 2001 - 2003). He was awarded a fellowship by the Wagner Stiftung of Bayreuth for the 2003 Bayreuther Festspiele. In July of 2003 he won first prize at the International Competition for Orchestra Conducting of Maikop, Russia. After this success, Jorma Panula selected him to conduct the Berliner Kammerphilharmonie at the famous Berliner Philharmonie.  He has conducted many orchestras all over Europe (Pomeriggi Musicali - Milano, Orchestra Filarmonica Romana - Roma, Orchestra dell’Accademia della Scala - Milano, Orchestra da Camera del Friuli – Venezia Giulia - Trieste, I Cameristi della Fenice, Filarmonica Marchigiana, Kajaani Chamber Orchestra - Finland, Parnu City Orchestra - Estonia, Edinburgh Youth Orchestra - Scotland, Moscow Chamber Orchestra -Russia, Adygeya Republic National Symphony – Russia, Berliner Kammerphilharmonie, Philharmonie, Berlin, Germany, Ensemble Orquestra de Cadaques (Spain), Kharkov Philarmonic (Ucraina), Filharmonia Sudecka (Walbrzych, Poland), Israel Symphony (Israel). From January 2009 he is principal conductor and artistic director of Orchestra Accademia di San Giorgio, Fondazione Cini, Venezia, one of the best chamber orchestra of Italy.
Alessandro Tortato holds two degrees: the first in Historical and Political Sciences from Università degli Studi of Padua, Italy, and the second in Contemporary History from Università degli Studi of Venice, both with full marks and honours.  He has published numerous historical books and studies in Italy, where his books about World War I have had particularly great editorial success. He writes about contemporary history and music in “Corriere della Sera”, the most important italian paper.
