Fascinated by the rediscovery of forgotten or unknown works of a repertoire ranging from the music of the 17th century to contemporary creation, French baritone Pierre-Yves Pruvot has become in recent years a very busy artist for many projects throughout the world, followed by first recordings. His vocal and dramatic qualities are particularly sought after for French and Italian operatic works of the 19th and 20th centuries: Russian premiere of Debussy’s opera Rodrigue et Chimene with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the title role in Milhaud’s Bolivar in the first fully staged version since the creation of the work with the Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar in Caracas, Meyerbeer’s L'Africaine in its original full version in Chemnitz, Mascagni’s Iris in Trieste under the baton of maestro Nello Santi, as well as modern recreations followed by recordings: Amadis de Gaule by Johann Christian Bach in Prague, La Mort d’Abel by Kreutzer in Liège, Céphale et Procris by Grétry at the Royal Opera of Versailles, Lodoïska by Cherubini at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Teatro La Fenice in Venice and Parco della musica in Rome, Salieri’s Falstaff under the baton of Jean-Claude Malgoire or Mathilde de Guise by Hummel in Bratislava.
His discography includes a large number of recordings with orchestra devoted to Bizet, Massenet, Meyerbeer, Paladilhe, Sains-Saëns, Gounod, Thomas, Halévy, Franck, Séverac or Monsigny, Paër, Lesueur, Dalayrac, Rameau, Grétry and Gossec. On stage, he has sung the major roles of the répertoire: Scarpia, Gianni Schicchi, Jago, Germont, Nabucco, Figaro, Leporello, Don Alfonso, Golaud, Méphistophélès (Berlioz), Zurga, The High Priest of Dagon.
Driven by an insatiable curiosity, Pierre-Yves has also been exploring for a long time the repertoire of French art song and lied with pianist Charles Bouisset. Together they have given recitals throughout Europe and recorded works by Poulenc, Sauguet, Ravel, Chabrier, Duparc, Brahms, Rachmaninov, Viktor Ullmann, Frank Martin, Pavel Haas, Guy Sacre, Jean-René Combes-Damiens… Pierre-Yves Pruvot has also recorded with the Manfred and the Debussy Quartets. He is the dedicatee and the creator of numerous contemporary works.
