She was born in Athens, Greece and is part of a musical family. From a young age she got immerged in music taking piano, cello and later on voice lessons. From the very first years as a cellist Lydia Zervanos collaborated with numerous professional ensembles representing Greece both in her home country and abroad. As a singer she has collaborated with the Crane Opera Ensemble in the operas L’Egisto by F. Cavalli, The Rape of Lucretia by B. Britten and M. Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges. She performed as a soloist with the Orchestra of the Athens University, Greece and has presented recitals in Greece and the USA. In 2012, she will be performing with the Athens Municipality Orchestra in their Immerging Soloists concert series. She holds cello and voice degrees with Honors from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, USA, the Classical & Modern Music Conservatory and the Musical Horizons Conservatory in Athens, Greece. Her teachers include George Zervanos, Martha Arapis, Jill Pearon and Dagmar Schellenberger in voice, Marina Kislitsina and Mathias Wexler in cello. She has also participated in masterclasses with renowned singers such as Stephanie Blythe, Sylvia Greenberg, Barbara Daniels and Cheryl Studer. Her studies have been supported by merit-based scholarships from the Greek State Scholarship Foundation and the Onassis Foundation. SUNY Potsdam Presidential Scholar, Ms. Zervanos has created a guide to Greek Diction to accompany her transcription into the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and translation into English of over 30 Greek art songs to help promote the Greek music and culture outside the borders of her country.
