Born in 1956, conductor/composer Amaury du Closel studied composition with Max Deutsch, himself a pupil of Schoenberg, and conducting with Alexandre Myrat, Karl Oesterreicher and Sir Charles Mackerras. He also attended master-classes with Pierre Boulez and Vladimir Delman. Amaury du Closel collaborated with numerous orchestras in London, Warsaw (Polish Radio and Television of Warsaw), Festival de Menton (Sinfonia Varsovia), Suwon (Korea), La Kamerata (Greece), Qatar, and is currently guest conductor of several orchestras in Italy, Germany, Romania - a.o. the Enesco Philharmony, the Romanian Radio orchestras and the Tirgu-Mures and the Iasi State Philharmonic Orchestras -, Bulgaria - Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and Varna State Opera -. In 2002, he was appointed permanent foreign guest conductor of the Romanian Radio National and Chamber Orchestras and permanent conductor of the Târgu-Mures State Philharmonic Orchestra in Romania.
He is currently Musical Director of Opéra Nomade, a nationwide opera touring company. Since 2006, he has been Artistic Director of an international opera course, L’Académie Lyrique.
Amaury du Closel has composed about thirty works including orchestral music, a chamber opera, chamber music and film music. His works are performed by the Romanian Radio Contemporary Music Festival and recorded by Radio-France, in Greece, Germany. Mr du Closel published in 2005 a book about European composers victims of the Nazi regime, that was awarded the Prize of the Critics for the best musical essay the very same year. Since 2003, he has revived numerous works of these composers in the concert series Forum Voix Etouffées in France, Austria, Germany, Romania, Poland, Lituania, Bulgaria.
During the 2011/2012 season, he will perform a.o. Mahler's Symphony nr 2 "Resurrection", Verdi's La Traviata, Strauss' Die Fledermaus, Henri Dutilleux' "Tout un monde lointain", Debussy's Jeux, Kurt Weill's Symphony nr 2 - with the Thessaloniki State Symphonic Orchestra.
