Dora Bakopouloυ was born in Athens. Under the guidance and encouragement of the conductor D.Mitropoulos, who has heard her performing when she was very young, in New York, she pursued piano studies. She graduated from The Athens Conservatoire, where she was awarded the first prize, when she was 17 years old, under the tutelage of M.Papaioannou. She continued her studies at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève, under the tutelage of L.Hiltbrand, where she obtained the 1er Prix de Virtuosité with honors. She studied music with N.Magalof and Fr.Gulda in Salzburg and with P.Badura Skoda and A.Brendel in Vienna, where she was also awarded. She has received awards in the international music competitions in Munich (Germany) and Vercelli (Italy). She has given recitals in Greece as well as in a great number of other countries (London, Warsaw, Bucharest, Belgium, Sofia, Granada, Nicosia, Limassol, Paris, Moscow, St. Petersburg, New York, Lugano). She has made a tour in Germany and she has played for the United Nations. She has also given a performance in Herodion as a soloist, within the frame of the series of events “Athens, Cultural Capital of Europe”, but she has also represented Greece in various cultural events in other countries. She has collaborated with Y.Menuhin, M.Chatzidakis, D.Chorafas, V.Kolassi, M.Theodoraki, G.Demertzis, A.Kontogeorgiou, T.Christogiannopoulos, M.Farantouri, E.Paspala, D.Patra, C.Mirosnikof, and M.Argerich. She has cooperated in the production of the 3rd Program of the National Greek Radio. She has recorded works of classical music (Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Ravel, Scriabin, Rachmaninov) as well as works by Greek composers (M. Chatzidakis and M.Theodorakis  mainly). She has been awarded for her contribution in music by The Athens Academy, with the Montsenigos Award. She currently lives in Greece, where she has given numerous individual recitals and has participated as a soloist in various events, along with National State Orchestras. She is the curator at the division of Piano studies of The Athens Conservatoire. Teaching music is something of major importance to her, a significant part of her life. She is very keen on chamber music, as well as on the musical accompaniment of Greek and foreign songs. She is the president of E.Ρ.Τ.Α. Hellas and she has also been holding for the last seven years the position as the Artistic Manager of the Aegina International Music Festival.
