Favoring traditional musical instruments, Alkis Zopoglou started his musical studies with percussion instruments and then moved on to the clarinet, but in the end he has devoted himself to performing and composing music for the qanun, attending classes in Istanbul and studying the styles of renowned Turkish qanunplayers. From 1996 to 2003, he taught the instrument at the State Musical School of Drama. Zopoglou has appeared with important Greek musicians and singers of traditional music and has also collaborated with many foreign musicians both in Greece and abroad. He has performed as member of the En Chordais ensemble and as a soloist in many countries, and he founded the music ensemble Kontrabando, with which he has released the albums Cargo and Elephant.
