MANOS HADJIDAKIS: “30” WITH ALKINOOS IOANNIDIS

Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL IN COLLABORATION WITH PANIK LIVE PRODUCTIONS
Concert by Alkinoos Ioannidis with works by Manos Hadjidakis

Part A: “MYTHOLOGY”
THE UNEXPECTED FORMATION OF A “MYTHOLOGY” TWO YEARS BEFORE THE JUNTA
“In 1965, like a true general, I wanted to start a revolution in Greece. Instead of a tank, I took a child - a dark and handsome teenager from the children’s choir of the palace and told him to sing. “I need new myths to sing,” the boy told me.
‘That’s right,’ I thought.
And with Gatsos, we began to create myths one after another, with girls who lost the keys to Thebes, with Irish and Jews searching the desert for weddings and joy, with sensitive robbers at their last moments, with a child who slaughtered friends and brothers because no one ever gave him the attention he deserved, with Orestes who became a bird in the forest to escape his fate, with a child who looked like Christ and much more. One myth piled on top of another and became so many and so strong that the child was frightened, the world was frightened, and the label that was going to release the album was frightened. Everybody was frightened except Gatsos and me, who continued with more passion the construction and composition of the myths, completely forgetting the revolution I had in the works.”
Manos Hadjidakis

Part B: 19 SONGS OF A “DIFFERENT MYTHOLOGY”
A section of independent songs of a “different mythology” by the composer, with paper moons illuminating children down in the plain, drunken girls, travelers, young princes who thought they could change the world, and a misunderstanding that we are yet to find out if an explanation has been given.
