Donizetti’s drama, which centres on the political and personal conflict between two queens, makes its triumphant return to the Met. With Diana Damrau as Mary Stuart, the condemned Queen of Scots, and Jamie Barton in the role of her rival, Elizabeth I. Stephen Costello plays the role of Mary’s lover, Leicester, while Andrzej Filończyk is the chancellor Cecil and Michele Pertusi plays Earl Talbot. Maurizio Benini conducts and the stunning set production is by Sir David McVicar.
