PETROLOUKAS CHALKIAS - VASILIS KOSTAS: THE SOUL OF EPIRUS
Organizer: TCH - TECHNOTROPON ARTWAY
Dialogues between the clarinet and the lute
The music of Epirus is a cultural treasure of incalculable value. This musical tradition has been described by the New York Times as "The world's most beguiling folk music". Through its huge and varied repertoire, it expresses the feelings of joy and sadness of the people, pays tribute to those who have passed away or who live in foreign lands, but also celebrates life and nature itself.
The focus of this concert is to initiate a new dialogue between the clarinet and the lute, through which the music of Epirus is expressed. A creative approach to the orchestral pieces and the way in which they are played, which was established in the 1920s and 1930s by the Epirot clarinettist Kitsos Charisiadis. He also created a unique and complex musical language based on the repertoire of Epirus. This language was preserved and further developed throughout his life by Petroloukas Chalkias and this philosophy of playing, after many years of study, was adapted from the clarinet of Petroloukas Chalkias for the lute of Vasilis Kostas.
