7th BAROQUE MUSIC FESTIVAL
ANTONIS FONIADAKIS: LENTO
Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL
In his new choreographic creation, Antonis Foniadakis promises a dynamic and deeply expressive exploration of baroque themes through the prism of contemporary dance and music. This work emphasizes the contemporary vitality, speed and explosive expressiveness that characterize that period, while at the same time, it engages in a dialogue with our own time.
In his choreography, Foniadakis draws inspiration from the principle of contrapunto and applies it to movement. Each dancer, like an instrument in a baroque fugue, introduces their own motif, which intertwines with those of others to form a cohesive but complex whole. This approach follows the music and engages in a dialogue with it, with each dancer adding their own “voice,” shaping their own narrative within the overall composition.
Known for his ability to combine elements of classical and contemporary dance, Foniadakis creates works that are both rooted in tradition and resolutely contemporary. This creation is no exception, extending this innovation from choreography to music. Julien Tarride’s inclusion of contemporary electronic sounds refreshes the baroque and its interpretation for a modern audience, strategically using these sound elements to enhance crucial moments such as the introduction, transitions between works, and a grand finale.
