COMMEMORATION EVENT OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
PIANO RECITAL HEGHINE RAPYAN: DIMENSIONS THROUGH SOUND - MUSIC OF ARMENIA
Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL
A journey through time and the history of Armenian music
Komitas Vardapet’s Dances for piano is a work based on old Armenian folk songs, as the composer, in his capacity as a priest, travelled from one village to the next one collecting folk songs. The program continues with two beautiful, yet contrasting miniatures, the melancholic melodies of Garun and the popular Armenian children's song Kaqavik (which is about a bird, specifically a partridge).
Subsequently, we will listen to the Piano Sonata by Stephan Elmas (Elmassian) who is considered to be the "Chopin" of Armenian music. Elmas was born in Smyrna, but he soon left for Europe to study music and he is regarded as a great discovery in music literature.
The second part of the recital is dedicated to two great and well-known Armenian composers, Aram Khachaturyan and Arno Babajanian. Heghine Rapyan will perform arrangements of Khachaturyan's famous ballets Spartacus and Gayane. Finally, she will perform Arno Babajanian's contemporary twelve-tone music Six Pictures, with a distinct element of imagination and colors, as well as The Poem, which will offer a dynamic and impressive ending to the recital.
