“The course of true love never did run smooth.”
The feud that breaks out between the king and queen of the forest makes the lives of the two loving couples who have found a refuge within it even more complicated. Mortals and immortals fall in love, they argue, have their identities mistaken and are hunted in a tale that has both comic and romantic scenes, which lead to unexpected situations.
Following on from his smash hit Julius Caesar (NT Live 2018), Nicholas Hytner directs a dream world of flying fairies, cloaks of fog and moonlight revels. One of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, with a stunning cast of great actors: Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Oliver Chris (NT Live: Young Marx, Green Wing), David Moorst (NT Live: Allelujah!) and Hammed Animashaun (The Barber Shop Chronicles).
