MOYSA & ZUILL BAILEY
Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL
The leading American cellist and Grammy award recipient, Zuill Bailey, joins forces with MOYSA – the Youth Symphony Orchestra of the Thessaloniki Concert Hall, in a program featuring two of the most popular works for cello in the global repertoire.
The work Variations on a Rococo Theme is Tchaikovsky’s most significant composition for this musical instrument, combining innocence, timbral transparency and morphological reference to the archaic form of variations with the lush lyricism and expressiveness of the Russian Romanticism of the 19th-century.
The well-known Kol Nidrei by Max Bruch also moves within the realm of variations, drawing inspiration from two Jewish melodies, while Symphony No.5 by Schubert, which concludes the program, abounds with the youthfulness, liveliness and optimism characterizing the composer at the age of 19, when the work was composed, as well as the ensemble performing it.
