KONSTANTINOS SFETSAS - STEFANOS THOMOPOULOS
Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL
PROGRAMME
Part A
L.v. Beethoven: Violoncello Sonata No. 3 in A major, opus 69
A. Dvořák: Rondo for violoncello and piano in G minor, opus 94
Part B
P.I. Tchaikovsky: Pezzo capriccioso in B minor, for violoncello and piano, opus 62
A. Schnittke: Sonata No. 1 for violoncello and piano
Two gifted soloists perform major works of the repertoire for violoncello and piano. The highlight of the evening is Ludwig van Beethoven’s popular Violoncello Sonata No. 3, the first work where the great composer gave equal prominence to both instruments and Alfred Schnittke’s Sonata No. 1 for violoncello and piano, one of the most poignant and somber compositions by the great 20th-century composer. Konstantinos Sfetsas and Stephanos Thomopoulos’s selections for their concert program also include Antonín Dvořák’s melodic Rondo in G minor, better known mainly for its orchestral version, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo capriccioso in B minor, a work representing the high virtuosic standards of European Romanticism.
