SUMMER AT THE CONCERT HALL
MARIA KOSTRAKI - MOSAICO MEDITERRANEO
Organizer: THESSALONIKI CONCERT HALL
Mosaico Mediterraneo is a musical ensemble that emerged during the recordings of Maria Kostraki’s album of the same name, on arrangements and music production by Antonis Sousamoglou.
The core of the ensemble is the Mediterranean song in all its incarnations, without geographical restrictions and beyond the boundaries of musical genres.
The ensemble’s repertoire swiftly moves from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque and the Romanticism of the 19th century to the folk traditions of Southern Europe, the timbres and rhythms of the Near East and Africa, to contemporary Greek songwriting.
The members of the ensemble come both from the field of classical music and the historically informed approach but also from that of jazz and improvised music in general. The ensemble’s musical proposition is their willingness to venture boldly and joyfully into the countless possibilities inherent in the musically rich Mediterranean region.
“The songs wear the clothes of their time each time, but their core remains timeless and universal. It fascinates me immensely to dress music in new garments, only to discover with enthusiasm that at all times and in all genres, people’s emotions, passions, and desires remain the same.
Maria’s voice has the power to express itself just as wonderfully and with the same ease across musical borders, languages and traditions. A voice that, like a traveler through time, pervades through the centuries of European tradition.”
