The concert is a tribute to the Georgian composer Giya Kancheli, born in 1935.
The program, featuring works for solo instrument, duo, trio and quartet, highlights Kancheli's wonderful timbre palette and the magical atmosphere that the composer knows how to create through his unique musical idiom.
Playing with sounds and volumes, nostalgic, melancholic melodies which at times are intentionally comical and then at other times sound childish, are just a few of Giya Kancheli's characteristics. And as the Russian composer and pianist Rodion Schedrin described him, "he is an ascetic with the temperament of a maximalist. He is a restrained Vesuvius"!
