Although a trip during which we meet J. S. Bach about 100 years after his death in Sweden, G. Rossini in Cuba and F. Chopin singing in a soprano voice in Paris may sound incredible, it has actually happened. Giovanni Bottesini has made it happen, by traveling on steamships and carriages with his double bass in his arms and in the company of a tarantula, a Mediterranean black widow in his much-used suitcase!
Double bass performer, composer and conductor Giovanni Bottesini embodies the ideal of the 19th-century romantic virtuoso artist who, against all adversity that he encountered and armed with his ingenuity and interpretative acumen, achieves the impossible: to render the heavy, unwieldy double bass to a popular solo instrument with autonomous expressiveness and its own repertoire.
A hybrid concert-tour and an educational program especially for the Music Schools of Northern Greece about the era of romanticism and the great masters in music, the bravery of the pioneers and the journeys, both musical and non-musical.
